THIRUPAAVAI AND THE JINGLE BELLS

Christmas has arrived and my memories flashes back to my childhood days. Born in a Hindu family and  educated in a Christian Institution, had a  fourteen long years of binding with my alma mater.

A week before Christmas, we would start meddling the house. My parents do stand with us and  the whole family would contribute in building a beautiful Christmas crib. The ragi and paddy  seeds would be sown days earlier. And we would make it sure that it would spread greenery on Christmas eve.

My younger sister, good at baking cakes would start her Christmas cake preparation well in advance. Variety of rava and maida cake would be present to relish. The season itself spread a wave of spirituality and serenity.

One  can equally see our homes decorated with kolams in the wee hours of this season, with a melancholy  of Thirupavai  ringing in our ears. And, the crib gleaming around the corner of the hall with  greenery all around. Jingle Bells and Thiruvemba would  surround the house.A mixture of emotions would spread, as friends and relatives walk in to our house during this season.

This  celebration would go on till New Year,  and the crib would go to safer place to be welcomed next Christmas. The house would again  get ready to Welcome Pongal  and we would start  meddling again.

Wish the clock  to strike  back, and the earth to rewind , and  Santa to gift  me "childhood days",  this Christmas.

Wishing All A MERRY CHRISTMAS

WELCOME MaRGaZHi

The month of Margazhi is known for its spiritual activites. The most beautiful month in the Tamizh calendar! Lord Krishna in Bagvat Gita says that he is the month of Margazhi from which one can imaginethe beauty and sanctity of this month.Scientifically its proved that the ozone will be closest to the earth during this month, so breathing fresh air early morning is very good for health.

As I started to welcome this month Margazhi, I was reminded of my childhood. We would be excited as Margazhi approaches. We used to search the attic for the big bound kolam notebook . Children and women wake up early and draw beautiful Rangoli patterns outside their houses with rice flour and border it with red colored powder. In the middle little cow dung is kept and a flower of the pumpkin adorns it.

Each day a different kolam would feature. As children, we envy on neighbourhood patterns and bigger kolam would display the next day in our house. The whole month would go with religious ceremonies . Our grandparents and elders in the neighbourhood would visit the temple early morning for pooja. All the temples in the month will be open in the early morning and special poojas are conducted to the deities.  In no other month does the festive mood spreads unbroken over one full month like Margazhi,

The coming generation would see and hear less of these. There is no such pleasure for the present children . They are busy with their half-yearly exams at this time. As parents , we failed to give the happiness we enjoyed as child to our children. Revive traditions to uphold family bonding.

Forgotten Happiness

With the coming of Christmas I find delight in writing the good old days at school. Pleasant childhood Memories haunt with the advent of December. The school I studied would go in celebration to Welcome Christmas.

Christ Mom Chrischild  game is one of the highlighted event in our school.Every class with its  teachers and students   participate in the event. All the names of the students and teachers would be written on a piece of paper and mixed up. Every individual pick one piece of paper from it. The name we pick up is the our  Christ child and we act as Christ mother and the whole show goes without revealing the identity of Christ child or Christ mother.

From the following day, it’s the duty to take of their Chrischild by giving gifts and flowers. The game  goes like hide and seek. Usually bright  colored roses would be seen adorning every child. Its a lot of  fun everyday from morn til the school ends for the day.

On the last day of Half Yearly Exam, when the  school closes for Christmas, the class assembles with the teachers.Presents, flowers and beautifully decorated gift packs are given to their Christ Child. On that  day, every Christ Child would know their Christ Mother.

I do remember my Christ child, my Physics teacher in Class Eleven. It still remains evergreen in my heart and cherish it for the years to come..The best part of it doesn’t end here.Traditions leave a moral behind. It paved way to build and inculcate a feeling of  unity and brotherhood regardless of caste, creed and religion, and to shed our ego and pride.

Childhood is a beautiful  gift of God. As a child I was given the best and sweet memories to recollect .So, dear educators and parents,In the race for marks and grade, don’t miss to give our children the happiness and sweet memories we once cherished. We all had half yearly exams, and there were rankings, inspite, we had all the fun. The school churned Doctors, Engineers, IAS officers etc.etc and it also gave good old memories.

I really pity  the future generations would glance  old school  memories as animated graphic stories of Christ Child.

Looking for internship? IIT-BHU students have a dedicated site for it

The race for a place in the corporate world is getting fiercer by the day. Students fresh out of college find it even hard to get a good internship, leave alone a decent job.

But to ease the pressure of students, two undergraduates from Indian Institute of TechnologyBanaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) have formed an online portal www.http://internlelo.com  which contains all the information about internship options available in various fields.

The portal primarily provides all the information about internship opportunities in different fields including details of duration of internship, stipend, eligibility and other necessary information.

At the same time it also has information about workshops, conferences, campus ambassador programs, technical and management events organised in college campuses or companies across the globe.
